Minamata Disease Municipal Museum
You can directly hear from sufferers of Minamata Disease about their experiences and ask them questions.
Theme of the tour:
You can see exhibits including panels and pictures. You can also join the Kataribe circle where sufferers of Minamata mercury poisoning tell of their experience.

The history of Minamata Disease is explained by using easy-to-understand images and panels. There is special equipment for producing images such as a big screen and eleven monitoring televisions allowing you to follow the images easily on switch systems.
(Kataribe lecture)
Since October 1994 we have been holding Kataribe lectures delivered by sufferers of Minamata Disease and others involved with the disease. You can directly hear about their experiences and ask them questions. (A reservation is necessary)

The number of people able to tour Up to approximately 100 would be appropriate but it is negotiable if you are a group consisting of more than 100 people.
Other conditions To join a Kataribe lecture, you must be a group consisting of more than 10 people and need to make a reservation.
Time when the tour is available 9:00 - 17:00 (You must enter the museum by 16:30)
Time required for the tour 30 - 60 minutes
Non-business days Mondays (the following day if Monday is a public holiday) as well as year-end and New Year’s holidays between the 29th of December and the 3rd of January.

Notes You are not allowed to take photographs inside the museum. You are not allowed to eat or drink inside either.
Availability of foreign languages No foreign language service is available so non-Japanese visitors will need an interpreter if they wish to participate in a Kataribe lecture. There are English translations available for the displayed panels and images.
