and the Fukagawa Porcelain Manufacturing Company is a leading company
of Arita ware. “China on the Park,” located within the grounds of
the company’s plant, is an Arita’s guest house, which is a favourite
with pottery fans throughout the world. |

| The center aims at the development of regional industries

| We make and sell Amakusa ware, which is a government-designated
traditional handicraft. You can see the pottery-making process and
the painting process. You can actually try molding the clay or painting
if you make a reservation. |

| We use the local clay to maintain our traditions.
You can see our ceramic wares being made on a potter’s wheel. You
can also see the firing of a climbing kiln if your schedule permits.
The firing is carried out seven or eight times per year. |

| The Hitoyoshi Craft Park, Ishino Park, is a theme
park where you can see, touch and sense both the seven-hundred-year
history of the Hitoyoshi-Sagara Domain and its traditional culture.
You can enjoy various experiences such as painting on folk toys
or visiting a blacksmiths as well as seeing the traditional handicrafts. |

| We, by using world-class porcelain stones called
Amakusa porcelain stone, make and sell various types of Takahama
ware, which is white, thin and clear. You can see those works being
made. You can also look around the 190 year-old Japanese style house
of the Uedas as well as visit the museum of Takahama ware. |

| You can see, touch and buy traditional handicrafts
such as Higozogan (gold work), edged tools, ceramics, bamboo bags,
Japanese paper and folk toys. Weekly exhibitions by craftsmen from
inside and outside Kumamoto are held in each exhibition room on
the first and second floors and in the basement. |

| We aim at promoting the handicrafts industry and
regional revitalization. You can see handicrafts made within Kumamoto
